Hiking in Bansko

Pirin National Park

Mount Vihren

Immediately south of Bansko lies the Pirin National Park, which is included in the UNESCO list for cultural and natural sightseeing. The park is rich with lakes, waterfalls, caves, forests and numerous historical sites.

The Pirin Mountains offer some of the finest walking in Europe and the area has acquired an Alpine relief - rocky marble or granite peaks and cliffs, deep cirques, well shaped glacial valleys and lakes. However, because of the well-expressed Mediterranean influence through the valleys of the Struma and Mesta rivers, it is the mountain range with the greatest number of annual sunny days throughout Bulgaria.

Walking Routes - Mt. Vihren

From Vihren Hut, there is a 2 hour walk of moderate difficulty to severval beautiful mountain lakes in the area. More experienced walkers and climbers can opt for a 6 hour hike that takes in some of the summits in the area.
