Hiking in Borovets
Borovets is located in the foothills of the Rila mountains at an altitude of 1350m. The proximity of the resort to a number of areas of natural beauty and landmarks makes it an ideal base for a variety of hiking routes, to suit anyone from beginners to seasoned experts.
In conjunction with a local guide, we can provide the following escorted routes, and others are availble on request. Some of the walks either require initial travel to a convenient starting location, or act as part of a longer expedition utilising some of the many mountain huts for overnight acccommodation along the way.

Black Rock - "Cernata Skala"
The signature hiking route to Black Rock takes visitors through century-old pine forests, passing flower-covered green meadows and across small picturesque streams. After the leisurely trek, there are plenty of places to picnic while admiring the scenery.
The "Black Rock" is granite rocky mass, about 4km from Borovets, situated 130m above the valleu of the Suha Maritsa river, and offers amazing views of the valley below.
The walk takes approximately 3 hours each way, is suitable for beginners, and is considered a good exercise in acclimatising to the altitude.
Seven Rila Lakes
The chain of the Seven Rila Lakes is the largest, most picturesque and most visited group of lakes in the Rila Mountains. Many of the species of flora and fauna are native to the area and are listed in the Red Data Book of Flora and Fauna, which denotes them as endangered or rare.
The walk begins at the "Vada" hut, some 14km from the nearby village of Goverdartsi, and can be reached by car. The walk to the lakes takes about 5 hours, and for beginners it is quite possible to reach the third lake on the first day. Overall the walk is of a medum level of difficulty.
